Summer is here – but perhaps not quite the summer we’re used to. Although travel is starting to open up again, many people are understandably hesitant to book a break overseas. With the price (and availability) of UK breaks becoming more of an issue with every passing day, many people have decided to staycation and use up some holiday time whilst staying closer to home.
So, what better way to spend that time than on some good old DIY!
Research from GoodMove has shown that 48 per cent of Brits partook in DIY over the last year, spending an average of £1,640 on home improvements over lockdown.
Most popular was decorating, followed by buying new furniture, creating a home office and transforming a garden/outdoor space. One in five even created their own home gym (rather than just moving the coffee table out of the way for a bit of Joe Wicks every morning like most of us).
Home bars, playrooms and home cinemas also made the list for many – with one in 10 going the whole hog and opting for a proper extension. As GoodMove points out, undertaking these home improvements can pay off when it comes to the resale value of your property – with a dedicated home office potentially adding up to 10 per cent on to what your home is worth, in these days of hybrid and remote working.
With this summer potentially seeing us spending more time at home than we usually would, it’s sure to prompt another round of home improvements, and with it many a trip to B&Q. So, how can self storage help? What puts many people off undertaking work is what they’ll do with all their ‘stuff’ whilst the work takes place. That’s where self storage comes in!
If you’re lucky enough to have building work going on, a self storage unit can be the perfect place to safely store items while the work gets done. If you’re converting a garage or loft, why not move everything you had in there into a self storage unit? If you’re repurposing a room, why not store what you need in self storage while you figure out what’s happening with it? Even if you’re just looking to decorate and need to declutter while that takes place, why not rent a self storage unit?
Self storage offers you a range of unit sizes to suit your needs and, with McCarthys, flexible storage terms depending on your requirements. You are the only one who can gain access to your unit and the McCarthy’s sites are well protected with security measures. There’s ample free parking at each of our five Yorkshire storage centres and equipment to help you get your belongings from vehicle to unit. Our shops also offer plenty of boxes and packing equipment in case you need them!
If this summer is going to see you undertaking renovations and home improvements, why not get in touch to find out more about our self storage facilities? Whether it’s storage in Leeds, or one of our other Yorkshire self storage centres, we’d be happy to help you make your home-related dreams a reality!
